 the fetus is very rigid, you should animate it too instead of going up and down

It serves to solve the same problems but they are quite different techinques. AA would be used more when the surrounding area or BG are together with whatever you AA. SelOut is more for when say a game sprite is on a transparent BG (usually animated) and then placed on a layer over a seperate BG. Another distiction is that AA tends to go on the outside of the lineart whereas SelOut is always ON the lineart.
