Its an eerie, windy windmill hill (thats the name).

spent over 20 hours on it, over a week. I really love it, though I cant shake the feeling that somethings not right with it. Maybe its the two colors I chose. (though I think I say that with every single piece I make)

Didn't think id animate it at first, and almost gave up on it twice! What a journey that was!
Thanks to orbofwisdom, skiff and the other good people from #pixeljoint for comments (especially orb for the birds, THE BIRDS)

And finally, Id like to add that I did not pixel this with my hands exclusively, I also used a mouse (sorry)

Jesus Christ, this is possibly the most amazing pixelart I've seen on this site so far. Faved.

Slemsvamp (Level 5 Lieutenant) at 2/13/2008 2:17:28 PM

new-age-reject (Level 1 Depressed) at 2/7/2008 3:35:50 PM
The blowey effect of the grass is awesome and the mountain is just immense!

Hîdan (Level 1 Gangster) at 1/5/2008 3:05:15 AM
I like the effects of the light on the moulin, perfect work

DevonR (Level 1 Intern) at 11/7/2007 11:16:45 PM

now THIS is a nice size for pixel art! Great work! I don't think I would have the patience to make such major animations (especially looping it all together)

Kaz21 (Level 1 Jukyu) at 10/18/2007 7:12:54 PM
It's so... awesome and massive. O.o Fav'd...

D-Hixxle (Level 1 Gangster) at 7/13/2007 7:41:14 PM
What especially drew my attention where the birds in the background. xD Insane sprite, added to favourites.

Fuck, how could this NOT win?

There are just some places where it becomes unreadable, but it's understandable, it's 1bit for god's sake.

That is amazing... my mind is blown. The dutch would be proud, I suppose.

spartan_117 (Level 4 Lieutenant) at 6/28/2007 12:24:35 AM

i like how u made the pixels seem to have a random position but describe the image perfectly.

Nightmare Maker (Level 3 Private Eye) at 6/27/2007 5:40:31 PM

the pic is sweet.

all the frames of the twisting windmill.... perfect!

but... where is the monkey??

I can't see it  =P

Womped (Level 3 Hatchet Man) at 6/26/2007 1:14:31 PM
Isn't that opposite of how the vanes should be? I think they should be flipped, since this way it's weighing it down. T'would move faster since that way the vanes on the left side would serve as a weight, making it easier for the opposite vane to rise high enough to move on its own.
You get what I'm saying?

Anyway, it's sweet.

Metaru (Level 8 Brigadier General) at 6/26/2007 9:03:53 AM
indeed... there's a hidden monkey in this picture... :D

iLKke (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 6/26/2007 2:55:46 AM
LOL! I can see the monkey!  :D

Xion Night (Level 1 Thug) at 6/25/2007 3:58:16 PM
Not a fan of the grass or clouds, but geez, man, this is awesome! Sweet windmills.

Sirus (Level 1 Jukyu) at 6/25/2007 7:16:37 AM
This is awesome.  One of those works where you really have to look at it for a long time to take in every detail.

c0ffee (Level 1 Gangster) at 6/25/2007 1:28:45 AM
Really nice %) The only thing bugs me is a monkey in a middle of the picture

Stickman (Level 4 Deputy) at 6/24/2007 11:08:22 PM

That is one HUGE anim! It almost didn't play on this computer !

Really good work!

T_T  Screw you and your talent too.  This.  is.  AWESOME.  How you do this stuff in so little time ... It baffles me.

jalonso (Level 11 Godfather) at 6/24/2007 6:13:53 PM
A most awesome job in this piece. You are most talented.

Noburo (Level 2 Kukyu) at 6/24/2007 5:57:19 PM
This is hands down the best animation I've ever seen.

iLKke (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 6/24/2007 1:42:15 AM
You need professional treatment. :D

circuscommando (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/23/2007 7:26:33 PM

cassiechihuahua (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/23/2007 1:35:28 PM
Amazing Job pulling this scene off/together with two colors!

InTheDark (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/23/2007 11:18:56 AM
Thats just ridiculous. Definately deserves to win.

DJD (Level 4 Button Man) at 6/23/2007 7:48:36 AM
As much as you probably hate having me comment on this, I want to say it looks a lot more polished than it originally did and I think the little details in addition to the windmill animation really brought the piece together. Even though I'm still not a huge fan of the scratchiness, I'll gladly say the other stuff you've added really brings it together as a pixelart piece. And a wonderful one at that. Nicely done.

Mykola (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 6/23/2007 1:49:54 AM

Frank you're joining some great company by winning my award for pixel art excellence:

Varock Shade (Level 7 Underboss) at 6/22/2007 10:58:17 PM
i didnt't know you would be adding an animation, nice job! and very very good job that even the grass is moving! one of the best 1-bit pieces ive seen so far!

Zhou9 (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/22/2007 9:52:06 PM
I wish it weren't so messy, but I still think it's amazing.

The B.O.B. (Level 10 Master Sniper) at 6/22/2007 9:43:19 PM
DAMN IT, FRANK! I thought I told you to stop being so damn awesome, already!! Honestly and truely, though, this is going to be one tough street whore to beat in the competition. Not only in the comp., but this is one of the biggest, and best animations of scenery that I've ever seen. With skills like these, who needs over the top colors. Fantastic job!

" And finally, Id like to add that I did not pixel this with my hands exclusively, I also used a mouse (sorry)" I'm guessing that you're referring to the pj forum arguments regarding the true definition of pixel art? This is most definitely pixel art, hands down...don't worry about the nay sayers...

sedgemonkey (Level 10 Master Sniper) at 6/22/2007 9:35:47 PM
This is really one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen and I'm not just talking about pixel art.   It's like an etching come to life.  I want to step into the scene and explore.  Just stunning work.

Edit: Damnit, I hate when I sound like a gushing moron -- sometimes I just can't help it. :P

soda (Level 9 Vice President) at 6/22/2007 8:54:56 PM
Wow, you win...
