Here goes... I was implored to submit this pixel by some of my friends on #pixeljoint. This a slow-scrolling space background I made for an upcoming TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine CD retro game release that I (Squirrelsquid is also helping out) am pixeling the graphics for. The game is called 'Xymati', and it's a vertical shoot-em-up like Raiden. There are a number of restrictions I must adhere to when making TG16/PCE graphics. Namely, the global 9-bit palette is limited to 512 colors to choose from, which makes subtle color gradients difficult. Also, each 8x8 tile can contain no more than 16 colors (with color entry #0 of each tile being the same across ALL tiles). With that in mind, please feel free to eviscerate my work now.
I agree with zAk actually, you could probably improve the palette and make better use of it as is. The dots on the end of the blue glowing stars are quite offputting for me.
That is some truly impressive work. Even with your "restrictions", it manages to have a great deal of depth. Nicely done. Remind me to hire you if I ever develop a top-down-vertical-scrolling-Raiden-type-space-shooter-game.

Very cool stuff. I find it impressive you get that magenta to blend into the blue so convincingly. My only qualm with it would probably be that it is very high contrast and brightness for a backdrop, and may be a little distracting in the game. But really, as a piece on its own its excellent.
