he doesn't know how to properly shade and you're telling him to AA?? c'mon. AA ISN'T TEH ANSWER.
so let's hope you understand all the points mentioned by Jalonso below. it may be 'your' art/style (wich is, ironically, a big excuse when speaking of flaws in technical issues), but you have some basic, minor guidelines to follow in order to achive a sucessful pixel art.
Nicely said. But yeah, you could refine some of your line art and try to AA a bit. Also the random highlights on the black spots do not work well. Cows have fur, not smooth bodies with random bumps.
We understand all too well. Its Pixel prowess that we seek. Not subjective matter like 'is it simple' or 'do we like it'. In this here cow the lineart is jaggy which indicates that your lineart is unrefined. Nothing to do with subject matter. The lighting on the utter is simplistic not because you only used 4 colors but because the volume of the utter is not properly shaded from a technical standpoint only. The complexity of the texturing in whatever that grey box is doesn't match in technique with the coloring used on the cow itself. There are shadows placed throughout the piece yet missing from the tail. Highlighting the spots on the cows is all wrong because fur spots are not bumpy tumors. Its techniques not style or artistic vision. That we don't care at all about.*
