I can see it now, it's actually a good start, but if I were you i'd take that purple and get maybe 2 or 3 more colors, a green a blue and maybe a red, and use them just like you used the purple, may achieve a nice effect with 4 very different colors.

Too dark, I have the same problem, I had to start "thinking" in brighter colors since I have all these ultrabright monitors.
