In this one, I was trying to get a slightly more realistic effect while making it still slightly cartoony.

It looks more realistic. Also you got rid of the big blue outlines and that's a good thing. The gradient effect is nicely done. That's a good piece of work. I would still change the background, make a new style... why not a shadow for the pepper.
