A revisit of my first submission, http://pixeljoint.com/pixelart/18364.htm that was uploaded exactly 11 months ago today! Wow! Tried to stick to the theme so I kept the design and reworked the colors and shading. In the process it got changed from plain and dull newschool to much saucier oldschool! Yay! It now seems to me that the original was rather crappy :P

@Mathias: Hmmm, there are similarities. Actually these gfx were printed in .net mag as part of a tutorial on how to make a flixel game. Perhaps somebody felt inspired, or maybe it's just a coincidence.

I love it! I do much prefer this to the original. Makes me wonder what Kenneth's work would look like if he did the same. (Not that I dislike KF's, I very much love his style. Just would be interesting to see!)

I love the "freshness" of that mockup. You managed to add nice highlights. The clouds have nice curves. One of my fave!

I'm sayng that, while this is a vast technical improvement (as per the challenge specifications), the "feel" of it is so incredibly different from the original that general "appeal" can no longer be compared in terms of "better" and "worse"

@Adarias: I'm not sure I understand. You think the old version had appeal and so this isn't "an obvious improvement in shading" ? Or are you just saying that the overall appeal is still pretty much the same?

yeah, it's different, and definitely more proficient, but i'd call it more of a re-imagining than an "improvement" simply because of the old version's appeal.

Yeah, those clouds are fantastic! I really dig the style. I really like the subtle details you've got in there too, like the ambient shading on the backs of the cats. Though, while I like that effect, it also seems somewhat out of the style you made.

Nit picking aside, the piece as a whole is really good. :)
