This is beautiful, I wouldn't have even seen this piece if it weren't for khobby favoriting one of mine. Regardless of the logical layer I really liked the layout, I imagined it was some sort of magazine spread score sheet for some 80's arcade game.

Blur your eyes a bit and let the colors saturate your eyes, what a 3 dimensional effect with just some black lines and some colored text.

I think it's genius :)

willroberts (Level 1 Rookie) at 7/17/2008 9:59:36 AM
i...what?

somehow i cant stop looking. niice.

castiboy (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 5/24/2008 7:25:16 AM
i have no idea what it's meant to be, but i like the whole geometrical organisation of it.
i have to agree with brucejuice on the fact that it uses very simple tools, but i still think it deserves a place in the gallery.

as with your previous one, this being a visual representation of something none visual (music in this case as well right?) it deserves to be called art, even if it's of a different kind of what we're used to see.

keep these around man

taquito143 (Level 5 Soldier) at 4/23/2008 8:28:22 PM
are you a scientist ?
i don'/t understand your draw...

Miumau0 (Level 5 Soldier) at 2/28/2008 10:52:52 AM
wtf? didn't got the idea :E

skamocore (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 2/6/2008 10:20:51 PM
seriously these are brilliant....I can't understand all the hating on these pieces...these are truly some of the most original things submitted for a while...They might not be sprites or scenes...but they certently are more artistic than a lot of other stuff that's in the gallery...

LegacyCrono (Level 1 Rookie) at 2/6/2008 10:27:14 AM

That's cool, preety weirdo, but I like it...

Hey, I finally figured out what it is!
It's... it's... no, forget it. I have no idea.

fireside (Level 1 Rookie) at 2/6/2008 6:39:34 AM
i like it, looks cool three words for you guys: get a life

iLKke (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 2/6/2008 2:48:08 AM
Not as interesting as the last one, but i like the pretty retro colors.

And regarding the art/not art discussion...
All the beauty we see around us stems from math, so is it so strange to accept that some people see pretty things in math on a more abstract level?
Art is always in the eye of the beholder.

Now shut up and pixel, all you philosophers :D

MrMister (Level 1 Depressed) at 2/5/2008 10:40:17 PM
crappy for pixel art, great for a chart

BruceJuice (Level 3 Hatchet Man) at 2/5/2008 8:35:57 PM
I'll agree that he can organize a chart and color coordinate properly. I however, can't say this is good pixelart. He simply got stuff to line up and fill in the right colors. It's just straight black lines with a standard spectrum of fill colors.

Regardless of weather or not this is art, I think he could've done a better job to present a chart that's more than just lines and blocked colors. I see no creativity in this at all . Anyone of us can slap lines up and use a fill bucket.

Agreed with Yar, a graph is just another picture, another type of art.

Naufr4g0 (Level 1 Rookie) at 2/5/2008 8:09:09 PM
It looks like my excel worksheets for structure calculation, but your charts are less messy than mine.

Yar (Level 1 Intern) at 2/5/2008 6:30:57 PM
"Graphs and art. Opposites."
I couldn't disagree more. All art forms began as method to convey information primarily. It was only after something that could transmit that information in a 'better' way came along that most of what we think of as art (painting, sculpture, photography, - hell - even dancing and music) came to be valued for the way it could transmit info. Even the sprites that most of us that come here end up posting were originally meant to convey where a player/monster was relative to other things on the screen, which way they were moving, what they were doing, whether they were damaged, etc. IOW, they conveyed information. Reduce the sprites to icons, reduce the icons to numbers = it's a graph.

There's art in what khobby is doing and how it's displayed, even if you don't understand it.

BTW: I do believe that each of the colors he uses in his work represents a note on an 7 note scale. I'd also conjecture that the numbers in this one represent cycles (frequencies) and the harmonic interaction between two frequencies.
...maybe.

Shiru (Level 3 Private Eye) at 2/5/2008 5:41:33 PM
This reminds HUD's in games, which is surely can be part of pixel art. I can rate game HUD, depending from how I feel it's usability and ergonomics, but it supposes that I know which part of HUD represents that. I don't know what shown on this work, so I don't know how to rate it.

Darth Mandarb (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 2/5/2008 4:58:47 PM
This was done pixel by pixel = PIXEL

This is HIS graphical representation of something that looks nothing like this.  HIS vision.  = ART

It's pixel art.

skeddles (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 2/5/2008 4:45:57 PM
Graphs and art. Opposites.

Darth Mandarb (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 2/5/2008 4:25:25 PM
It's the freakin' Gestapo around here ... it's one of the reasons I rarely post my work here.

Anyway ...

Khobby - you drew this pixel by pixel.  Do not stop posting them here just because of a few inappropriate comments.  Art is subjective.  If you feel this is YOUR art, then keep posting it.  There are those of us who recognize it for what it is!

I find this (and your other one) intriguing!  Though I must admit I don't understand them!! :)

sensation (Level 1 Intern) at 2/5/2008 4:17:36 PM
at least provide a description

darokin (Level 4 Murderer) at 2/5/2008 3:36:09 PM
I instantly knew that it's one of your pieces when i saw it !
No seriously, I quite agree with ScarresShadow, I think that for those non receptive (and I understand), we should take this for an abstract (conceptually) piece... I think it's also abstract for the other ^^
I can only see mathematical patterns throught it and I don't understand what are they applying for, but I think I don't need to...I see pixel and colors in a geometrical composition...Understand that it won't become 'Pixel of the month' but it's ok..he don't intend to ? Tell me khooby, you don't ?  ;)
Don't know how the admin take it ?

ScarredShadow (Level 4 Deputy) at 2/5/2008 3:20:07 PM
Just because you can't understand them doesn't mean he shouldn't post them. I mean this is a pretty fancy for a chart.  If you don't understand it, then go learn about it.  It's accepted, so it's good enough for the gallery. I like it.

khobby (Level 1 Rookie) at 2/5/2008 3:02:44 PM
 ...you're no fun...

okay you'll get no more "organigram charts" from me

! goodbye pixel-joint !

I Am Uh (Level 2 Dealer) at 2/5/2008 2:53:39 PM
Please don't post these charts that no one can understand. It's really not pixel art.

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 2/5/2008 2:46:47 PM

we often hear 'instantly knew that it's one of your pieces when i saw the preview' in positive sense. not here.

organigram charts on pixel level, not pixelart in my book

Superpipo (Level 2 Quiet One) at 2/5/2008 2:43:25 PM
and another great, mysterious piece from khobby :P
can you explain this piece?
