Yipii! All the monsters from SMB except Bowser and that lame fish (am I missing any?). Plus a couple of SMB3 bonus creatures. And I know it should'nt be a boomerrang but i thought it looked more cool. The focus in this piece is to try and learn more about alternative palettes. In this case I used one of The B.O.B. 's as a base. I think the colours I normally pick myself are way too boring so now I'm mimicing other people's cool palettes and hopefully I'll get a hang of it. The expierienced SMB player will notice the monsters are off scale. That is not totally random. I've made them a bit larger on purpose so that they have the potential to fit into my game project. The "Koopa Troopa" was originally just a normal turtle for the Sewer Theme, but then I thought, what the heck... I'll just do a lot of Mario monsters Critique is most welcome since this is mostly a learning project.

its not in that style at all what the heck
the outlines make your monsters look misshapen that is all
most specifically the blooper

It doesn't have to be all black. It should be a darker tone of the colours its outlining. Also, it doesn't have to be one solid colour.. the outlines on this look hella weird.

Hm, I can't remember the flying Goombas in SMB. I think they first were in SMB3.

@ MrMister: They all do? Could you please be a bit more specific? What's wrong with the outlines? How do you think they could be improved?

Thanks. If you think about it, the enemies make (at least some) sense. Mario is a plumber so the enemies are sewer based. People flush their pet turtles out in the toilet so they end up in the sewer. In the sewer there are lots of fungus thus the goombas. If outside I could also imagine some weed growing all over the pipes, so there you have the plant monsters. There you have it, the three most basic enemies. What the game needs is rats and alligators.

it looks very good. though the sprites are well-known, you was able to put a great new style into it. i like the colors and how you used them, expecially the blue shadow. also hooray for the cool pattern of the pipe.
although i've seen this sprites for so long and so often, your picture gave me a sensation of how strange the enemies are chosen in mario games. turtles wtf.... ^^
