Buuthulhu!  The mere mention of his name strikes fear and terror into the heart of mankind.

Goal:  Buuthulhu was my first stab at 'otherworldly horror-meets cutesy game' and I'm not really sure how close I came.  I've been considering abandoning this design altogether for a more ferocious one, but first I'd like to hear your thoughts.  Do you think he looks acceptable as a somewhat-cutesy, adventure-action game hybrid enemy, or should I go back to the drawing board?  The character to the right is the star of the game, a 12 year-old moderately overweight kid named Boyd who loves short walks and tons of Belcha Cola.

A short note:

1.  The game design is retro-modern; that is, while I adhere to many of the c-64 design rules I do not limit the sprite color count (the 3-color limit per sprite) to c-64 hardware limitations.  This is just a design choice.

Thanks in advance!

Right you are, surt.  I use the default c-64 palette, just more colors per sprite than are normally allowed (unless you build a character from a combination of sprites, then you can theoretically have more colors).  Ultimately I guess it won't matter in the game, but I just wanted to make that distinction clear from the start in case people wondered why I was using more than 3 colors per sprite :).  Thanks for the feedback!

Really dig the style. Looks pretty much standard C64 colours to my untrained eye.

Aha, but he's meant to be smaller, savvy?  He's a little kid and aside from some of his friends, most of the people/monsters you run into the game are adults or just giant creatures :).  Maybe I should've made that clear from the start.  Thanks for the feedback, though!

Nice! But your main character should respect the same proprtions as Buuthulhu.
