This was originally done in 05/2006 for the Retro RPG Challenge on Pixelation.

The goal was to create two mockups for an RPG under pseudo-GBC restrictions (see above link for details).

Cookies go to Turbo for helping with the readability of the container.

*update* (tweaked sprite colors (prv img still has old colors))
More cookies go to jalonso for pointing out contrast issues with the other sprites.

I think he means the purple bat. Kid of looks like an old Final Fantasy and Zelda put together.

Oh, it's supposed to be a bug, not a crab (the blue crawling creature), so I was not sure if you were referring to the mud crab man on the bridge.

Except for the snakes, I did tweak the colors on all sprites though and I think they stand out better now.

Best seen on the crab which you can barely make out. The skeletoon stands out more than the crab and witch and that is not a moving item.

Off in which direction, too little or too much?

Black/White outlining is not an option under the given restrictions (3 colors per sprite) but I will play around with the sprite palettes to see if I can do something about their readability. Thanks for the feedback.

Only the contrast of the sprites seem off. Maybe black/white outlining?
