Some time ago I wanted to do another portrait of someone, so a bit of asking and a photo reference later and I could start.
It took me longer than I thought, I stopped the project for a few weeks and decided to resume working on the project about two weeks later. After quite a lot of work this is the piece that came out.

I decided not to colour it, but grayscale was a bit boring too in my opinion. I decided to give a few of the greys some saturation, which makes the midtones section sepia-like, but the lighter and darker tones grayscale. I kept the background quite simple, I only added some spots to the edges to make it look a bit like an old photo, or just to fill it a bit up...
I think it came out nicely, but the shirt is (also after tweaking) not really like I want it to be, so I am open to suggestions.

And last but not least, here is the WIP Image and the Photo Reference I used.

I love it! It looks very realistic. And only 12 colors. FAV!

those little subtle details that exist in Photographies are something that you still have to work. like that kind division in her forehead(wich i know is not a division, but it does look like one). these small things can surely make the difference in an image of this nature, but i believe you already know this :P

anyway, for 12 colors, you did an outstanding work and all my blue dots are belong to you.

I too followed the progress on this and kept the c+c to myself since realism in pixelart is not my thing. That said this is awesome and a milestone in your pixelart. Truly fantastic, kudos.

Very nice! It's been really interesting watching this picture progress. The final version is excellent.
I love the slight brown tint amongst the greys.

Outstanding work on the hair highlights!   And dithering!  And, well... all of it!  The only crit I would have is that here right cheek seems a bit swollen with the curve of the lower part of the right eye and the shadow coming down from the eye.  Gives the cheek a little too much volume.  But hey, its better than I can do!  Great job and fav'd!

Good improvement! :)

on the strands I'd add a darker shade on the side,  just to make it pop off the face, you know?   But otherwise very nice!

I tried to make the strands a bit more organic, and I put a few freckles on her face, tried to keep things subtle And thanks for the advice and positive comments so far!

Is she single by any chance??  ;)  Great work!

one of very few pixel portraits that actually makes the girl look pretty.  for that i commend you.

Looks good, though some things I think need a tad more work:   the super-vertical strands of hair on her cheek - those should be thinned out (good aa practice ^_^)  and given a more natural curve.   It's just odd that the rest of the hair is so organic and then this little chunk is perfectly straight and with the lighter colors it just gets separated more from the rest of the hair.    Also it'd be cool if you added some of the freckles into the pixel - it'd give her more interest and character and break up some of the bigger shapes.

But overall it came out really good,  I'm looking forward to the next one!   Maybe next time you could play around with the colors more.  Experiment with something bolder?
