Just a simple iso scene that I did for fun. Sprites and background have their very own color palettes, so it kinda bloated the color count a bit (no special reasons for doing it this way though).
Thanks for the feedback everyone (and the interesting discussion too!) I've taken note of them all and will do my best to improve on my next piece!
Yeah, the leaves do lack a little form/volume now that you guys have mentioned it...

i suppose we're getting off topic but yeah, depth is the most form that we'd get from small spots - and it's really more like texture because they are too small to have their own form. the problem with that idea of the spots si that they don't actually bring the area outwards - they make the areas immediately around them look darker by comparison and actually do next to nothing for the larger forms, being instead themselves little spikes surrounded by little valleys. This creates contrast which is slightly more attention getting, but as I said does little to lift the greater form off the page. we could discuss this over at pixelation or over chat maybe, it might be a bit of a distraction here :).
I don't think the spots help priority all that much, honestly. Maybe form is the wrong word, but I dunno... it certainly helps give the leaves some depth... the areas with spots appear to come outwards, as before the tree was pretty flat because of the lack of highlights.

not really sure bringing out the leaves with sharp spots (dusty, you should know better! that doesn't help the form, only priority! SOFT AREAS of light and shade make form)
this makes me happy enough when i see it that, despite not feeling it's changing life, the universe, and everything, I'm going to bump it from ( x x x x x x . . ) to ( x x x x x x x x ) for being so pleasant :).
As the outlines go, the colors are bright enough that they don't deaden much from it (if they do, it might be for the better!), the value range is developed enough in the darks that there's no "shock" of black, and it serves it's purpose well of keeping the sprites off the background. He's avoided the mistake of using black much within the sprite, choosing colored lines instead, so i say good on you for it.
Oh yeah I agree I think the black outlines works great for the game sprites I hate it when pixelers fail to acknowledge that in a mockup form should follow function. I just think that its a tad jarring in the case of the bird. There could be many reasons for it: the colors of the trees as cure mentioned, the fact it's smaller, the fact there is less detail and change in the scenery around it, or just the fact that I've looked at it a lot more than any normal person would in-game and my mind is twisting what I see. Nevertheless it's all still really well done and as for the bird I couldn't offer any better suggestion so kudos to you.
I think the black works ok, especially for game sprites. However the tree looks a bit flat, maybe because the top is darker and less contrasted than both the trunk and the grass. Other than this, very nice job!

I personally love the black outlinkes. It makes the characters stick out, but I feel that they should, like sprites in a game. The only thing I don't like is the tree palette. +fav
Yeah, the darker outlines do make the sprites look a little tacked on. Wanted them to look a little more gamey, but I guess it didn't turn out too well. Thanks for pointing out. I'll be sure to take note of it in the future!

Really wonderful colors and pixeling. The grass is giving me a big minishcap vibe. The only think I could possible rag on is that bird; I know you want to seperate important elements from the background via saturation and black lines but it just feels too pasted onto that tree for me. great work nonetheless though.

I love this, the colours are so vibrant! You did a fantastic job on this! I am particularly in love with the sprites, they're adorable! Definite fave!

Looking very cute! I like it!

Amazing! :D...good to see another piece from you.
My only complaint is the black outlines on the characters. It really makes them look like separate pieces that have just been placed on top of the scene.

this is so cute :D
very good, faved+

Looks very good! This is such a cute scene, and you have balanced details and contrast very well. The characters are so cute too, as is the little bird. This goes to my favourites.
Love it. I can't find any flaws at all. Everything is excellent from the palette to the perspective. Grade A work!
