Nice scene! However I also have to agree with saboteur, and its hard to see that they would be playing chess without the title.

I really like the idea of the goldfish!

I agree with saboteur about the tiger, less red and more white where applicable.
I guess goldfish are pretty exotic in the land your zoo is set in ; )

I like the rocks, I like the tiger, I like the table, I like the fish bowl...but no, the table's perspective doesn't fit, and no, the highlights don't belong on the tiger. But it's beautiful anyway.

Since the ground and stones have somekind of an upperview, wouldn't the table too?
It's an excellent piece though, love the style and colors!

Looks like a lizard, mostly because the colours don't look like tiger colours, the highlights make it read as somewhat shiny, and the spine looks like it flows straight into the tail... which is also true for tigers, but tiger tails tend to be capable of more motion than lizardses.

Plus, don't tigers have big white patches of fur everywhere?

I didn't mistake it for a lizard. It is clearly a tiger.
Could have been the colors that made them think it was a lizard. (they've played to much soul calibur...)

Lizard's a bit too anthropomorphic to me. Would've been funny to see it leaning over the board with its stubby little arms and legs
