Whew, this got a lot more complicated than I'd planned! I started out with the same method I used for the Frankenstein boss (in my gallery), that is, I made the static sprite, chopped it into pieces, put them on separate layers and animated them, and then added a "clean-up" layer to draw some pixels in where the pieces weren't seamless. Anyway, this is his idle/dancing animation for before and during the big fight. (He looks a lot cooler when there's crazy music playing!) Now to animate all his walking/jumping/attacking stuff...

Thanks! Here's the story on Curses! We never finished it, unfortunately. We both got very busy, and the programmer (my friend Patrick, the same programmer for the Toxic Sonic game) originally built it in Actionscript 2, and then when Actionscript 3 came out he wanted to learn that and re-do Curses from the beginning, starting with the Werewolf stage (again) and then building the other twelve stages (yikes!). The project fizzled out, and then when we started working on the Toxic Sonic game two years later. We're both very excited about the new game and we would love to go back and finish Curses if we have the time. I already have tons of monsters and backgrounds for the other 12 stages! I hope we can do it.

Hey, I'm not really often around at the time, but now I come here to find you're back after nearly 2 years ;) What happened to "Curses!" ? I guess this is a new project? Got to check out the material you uploaded on this... Like it

Thanks BlackDragon, I use ImageReady to animate.

Thanks, nvision, I'm enjoying this 16-color palette a lot, even though it's not based on any video game system or anything like that. I actually just downloaded an NES palette and tried applying it to my background graphics for this piece, and wow! It suddenly looked like Castlevania! I'd like to explore that palette more later.

This looks great, as does the majority of your work!  There's an unnatural nature to his motion that somehow makes it quite appropriate, seeing that he's a zombie :)

Also, I'm intrigued by your limited palette.  When I saw your first mockup posted for the project, I thought you were actually working on a NES limitation game, as the colours looked familiar to those I'd been dabbling with on an 8-bit job.  Limiting the enitre game to 16 colours is even more impressive, I think, and will lend a great deal of cohesiveness to the style.  Kudos!

That is a really good animation technique, I may have to try it out some time. What do you use to animate?

Good work btw, might want to see some more movement in the feet though.

Thanks Labbe100! I actually got the whole game down to 16 colors, which is insane; I was up around 50 when I got the idea, an reduced from there. The three player characters and all of the zombies including the boss all use the same 6-color palette: black, white, and three reds. The backgrounds use the same, plus a few more grays and reds.

I like very much the flow on the fingers !
the association of the red, black and the white in a restricted palette is very effective

Thanks for the comments so far, everybody! I'm now trying to get this guy to do an equally  funky walk and it's killing me!
