I was going to do this like... over a year ago. Just never happened. But hey, now it's done, I guess.

I've never tried a fighter sprite before. Animation isn't my strong suit, so it isn't anywhere up to the quality of some other submissions on PJ, but for now, I guess I'm satisfied with it.

Kinda inspired by Darkstalkers, I guess?

Edits: Added a frame, changed tail animation a bit, stopped the left leg from moving weirdly, and made the loincloth less rigid on the backswing.

 

Edit Again: People kept bringing up up over here and at DA... so I spent another two hours making it look more like an idle animation, fixing up some of the arm movement so it's less choppy, etc. I hope everyone's more satisfied.

I do like the animation.  I have to say though I find the tail swishing to be pretty cute.

My biggest issue was the fact that everyone was hung up on the fact that it wasn't a decent idle animation. The point wasn't to make an idle animation, but to practice animating.

All in all, I needed to vent. I still listened to the crits and went back and edited the piece. Several times.

I understand you are sick and tired of all the fixing you've done on this piece, but I still feel I have to mention the few white pixels appearing under his right foot as the tail is returning to his side.

Other than that, I must say this piece is stunning.

Kaiseto: These are comments not complaints, people are simply giving their opinions, because they think it's good enough to deserve them. They can see the promise in this, and are trying to improve it however they can.

I can understand your frustration, after editing and listening to people, but I would be thanking people for this many comments.

Alright, I hate to be a pain, but I'm sick of getting criticisms on this. I'm done... I spent 7 or so hours making it, and another 2 editing it further to fix problems people have brought up. This isn't for a REAL fighting game. It was supposed to be an idle animation, but doing a stand/breathing animation would have hardly been practice.

Yes, I know, it's weird for an idle animation. If I had called it a taunt, I have a feeling I wouldn't be getting HALF the complains I'm getting now.

And no, nothing was animated seperately.

I'm not angry at you (or anyone else in particular). Just a little exasperated given the level of nitpicking I'm getting over calling it an idle animation.

Not sure if the tail is animated seperately, but it looks off center. Perhaps if you moved it to the left (our) a bit, it would look properly connected. As it is right now, it seems to be coming out of his left (his) leg.

The hand movement is kind of snappy/choppy, too much for my liking.

Not sure what kind of move this is, if it's meant to be an idle animation, I hope it doesn't continuously loop like this, it's rather quick, in frequency, and the movements themselves. I think it'd be cool, if the rest of the body was pretty much static (slight movement for breathing and such would be okay), with the tail in a constant, slow, slither, for a nice 'idle' animation.

Despite all that, though, this is a pretty great piece. Lovely shading and contrast, and nice, pleasing colors. My favorite work from you so far, out of your gallery here.

It's nicely animated and the style looks good but his idle stance is not very dynamic.. it just feels wierd.

I like this, especially the style, It'd be interesting to see with a background.

I have to agree with the others though saying the movements are too quick for a basic stance. to me it looks like if his legs moved a bit it could be some sort if dodge maneouver? ( I'm picture him jumping back to avoid an attack)

its a really good aniamtions, very smooth, and the sprite is awesome, but ive never seen a battlestance like that, seems kind of weird. Anyways, it still looks amazing, good job!

That's kinda vague, but I'm fairly sure you mean the little... circly... thing he's doing. And yeah, that's an issue. I just spend some time smoothening out some of hte other movement, so I might as well take some time to fix the leg as well.

I'll probably end up fooling around with it in the near future... I think some work could definitely be done, specifically in reference to the movement of the loincloth and the tail.
