This is the bestiary for Realms of Quest III, an upcoming D&D-type role-playing game for the Commodore VIC-20.

Technical information: Each monster was done in an enlarged software-based "character graphics" mode, 20x40 resolution, double-wide pixels (approximately the width of C64 pixels). The VIC-20 has sixteen colors total, but only four were available four each monster. And of those, two are consistent across every monster: black and yellow. For the other two: one color from 0-15 is selectable for color 1, and one color from 0-8 is selectable for color 2.

Oh, ok. So it's a very good use of VIC-20 palette.

Thanks all :-) Necroleachate, it's the VIC-20 palette... it's the same for the first eight, but the subsequent eight are different. Check out the link, you may find it interesting to see the palette.

Very nice style. And an awesome use of C64 palette.

Wow! I've read about Realms of Quest III just yesterday in Retro Gamer (load 68), and now to see this here!

Very-very nice, reminds sprites in RPG's of those times.

Not long ago I made some graphics with VIC-20 restrictions, but wasn't going too deep into subject (and I never had real VIC-20). I thought that most common resolution for VIC-20 games is 4x-wide pixels. Is it so?
