Pixel Art Challenge: Out in the Cold

160 x 90 pixels, 23 colors.

Possibly created as practice before a real oilpainting.

Based on this location/image: http://i50.tinypic.com/10dgsn8.jpg

Obviously I traced some keypoints & perspective lines.

Did not use all of the 25 colors, could perhaps have interpolated some ranges but I'm tired now and almost snowblind! :P

Made with GrafX2.

Captures that wintery feeling perfectly.

user
orange08 (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 3/5/2012 11:31:00 AM

This is amazing @_@ It really looks like a fuzzy camera picture.

user
Andrey (Level 3 Private Eye) at 12/4/2011 2:13:00 PM

Cool dithering, I love it

user
Cyangmou (Level 6 SWAT) at 11/3/2011 1:55:00 AM

What's fascinating me at this one. I guess you are the only artist who is doing great bubble dither and your color choice is also always an eye-catcher. You are just amazing and I wanted you to know that.

user
Friend (Level 3 Hatchikyu) at 10/10/2011 7:49:00 PM

it's so good that it's bad

Great image

user
microDOT (Level 1 Intern) at 7/7/2010 5:44:00 PM

High standard, though maybe I would add more colour.

user
CeciliaOfSweden (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/18/2010 6:26:00 PM

This is a truly lovely picture...  You even got the cold atmosphere right! The only thing missing is the dry-cold sensation in your nasal cavities as you inhale and the cold nosetip.

user
Mr. Matti (Level 5 Sniper) at 6/17/2010 2:08:00 PM

This is so good, I don't know what to say.  Very nice colors and a cool atmosphere.

user
TunderPhoenix (Level 2 Corporal) at 6/14/2010 5:40:00 PM

... oh.... my.... God....

Where you get that camera that takes photos already in pixels?

user
Jabber (Level 3 Private Eye) at 6/10/2010 8:12:00 PM

Wow. Looks really good even at x4.... in fact it looks even better. That's some immensely subtle and detailed shading. I like it a lot.

user
Brod (Level 1 Jukyu) at 6/8/2010 1:42:00 PM

Ahh.. incredible!

EDIT: voted.....

user
Petrichor (Level 3 Enforcer) at 6/7/2010 6:15:00 AM

I also love how the bubble dithering makes the entire scene look snow-filled. I am always kind of leery when it's being used on skin or whatnot (although you do it better than most), but it works here.

user
slym (Level 8 Rear Admiral) at 6/6/2010 5:40:00 PM

:/ don't like repeated textures, definitely not your best work. Sorry :(

user
SpaceSalmon (Level 1 Rookie) at 6/6/2010 1:44:00 AM

by far your best work.  It got a great atmosphere to it. 5/5

user
Clovvach (Level 2 Dealer) at 6/5/2010 10:37:00 AM

For some reason, I have never really fan of your work, but this one... wow, it seems to stand out of the others. I really dig it, the mood, the atmosphere. I am still bothered by the overuse of colors in some areas, and the sky could use some work, but it still looks great. Really, I'd like to see more pieces like this in the future, because I like this one the most out of all the ones that you have made.

user
Photocopier (Level 11 Godfather) at 6/5/2010 8:49:00 AM

I love your pixel works, i like the way it looks smooth enough for a colour reduce, but when you zoom in it's all these interesting pixel patterns and it's like "no I'm just that awesome"

user
Green_Hell (Level 2 Flatfoot) at 6/5/2010 8:41:00 AM

Labor camp, that was my first impression from the preview. Like it that's for sure.

user
ev149 (Level 4 Deputy) at 6/5/2010 7:59:00 AM

I love you.

Superb job, awesome use of colors and shading.  It's got my vote!

user
Satsume (Level 10 Capo) at 6/5/2010 5:06:00 AM

very realistic,nice piece

user
darchangel (Level 4 Murderer) at 6/5/2010 3:22:00 AM

Lovely and more interesting than the original picture...snowball fight anyone?

user
Manjaman (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 6/5/2010 2:12:00 AM

Superb !

I'm with those who consider your bubble dithering perfectly fits this piece. It gives a heavy atmosphere to the scene, like it has just been snowing or something.

Agree with Pragz for the glass doors. You REALLY should test without.

(i can't stand the preview frame )

user
Manupix (Level 11 Godfather) at 6/5/2010 1:39:00 AM

* gasps in awe *

user
InvaderOz (Level 2 Petty Officer) at 6/4/2010 10:21:00 PM

Outstanding.

user
BlazeAce (Level 6 Commander) at 6/4/2010 10:01:00 PM

I find that the bubbles really fit this one. They kind of remind me of snow giving the picture the winterish feel it needs.

Love it :)

user
Paulo Peres (Level 6 SWAT) at 6/4/2010 8:37:00 PM

That's amazing man!

Great atmosphere, nice shading, congrats!

user
RollerKingdom (Level 7 Mass Murderer) at 6/4/2010 7:44:00 PM

this looks so real. great job! my favorite so far

user
jamesmorrow07 (Level 1 Jukyu) at 6/4/2010 7:36:00 PM

Damn, those bubbles work wonders... Brilliant piece you have here, it looks realistic.

user
dumbo (Level 3 Hatchet Man) at 6/4/2010 7:34:00 PM

Very well done!

user
Pragz (Level 1 Depressed) at 6/4/2010 7:16:00 PM

Your bubble dithering has worked for some pieces, but I don't like it in this one. The glass doors on that first building on the right stand out too much.

Other than that, pretty nice.

user
Buddy90 (Level 5 Assistant Manager) at 6/4/2010 7:00:00 PM

Extremely smooth, although I'm not sure if the texture of the sky matches the piece

user
dpixel (Level 9 Vice President) at 6/4/2010 7:00:00 PM

Just awesome!  You got me beat.  Like Reo said, "best thing I've seen from you".

user
Reo (Level 11 Sensei) at 6/4/2010 5:05:00 PM

Brilliant work, best thing I've seen from you!
