@skeddles: dithering the background would have taken so much longer for an almost invisible effect. Besides, he hasn't dithered in any other area in the pic. I don't think "at least" are words you should be using for a yearly best pixel placer.

How do you do the circular gradient around the moon, by pixelling? And how do you choose your colours with there being so many? I love this, fav.

Love the angle on this! Everything is placed so perfectly. The style is pretty unique too. I don't think I've ever come across anything like this. It almost looks like a cartoon-3D rendition. Sweet! You nailed this one as a 10/10 score in my book!

Gah, I can't believe I havn't spotted this yet!! The light emitted from the moon in the background must've been a real pain in the arse, heh. I think the thing I like the most about this is the texture on the pumpkins and the sharped angled style on his clothes.

randomblink - I am sorry but Im very lazy and overworked person so Im not planning any tutorials. But if you want to know how I learned what I know I can tell you. Its simple: whenever I came long some graphicaly impressive game (for me) I made lots of snapshots, then loaded them into gfx app (preferably with "magnify" tool :) and studyed them for hours. Finding out how they are aliging pixels and colors, disecting palette etc.
I spent days with screens from games like Legend of Kyrandia,Gods,Chaos engine, Speedball2,Dizzy,Lionhearth,Perihelion ...                                                   
You dont need to wait till somebody chew all the ideas for you and serve them on silver in 10 steps ;)

You can't do anything that isn't absolutely perfect can you? I really love the robe thing, and the text. Is the text hand done, or a font?

 Well, I don't necessarily mean gradients as "computer generated gradients", I'm also counting some areas on the pumpkins, the text "Jack", but they're all used well enough or broken up a bit to still keep it clean looking.

Also, I just noticed he has no glow from the lamp on him. Perhaps that'd give a bit more atmosphere to the scene. Then again, maybe not.

"you should add some fog in the graveyard to give it more atmosphere." - definetly. I was just a bit exhausted when I finshed this one and Im so overworked theese days :( If I just got a decently payd job for a change :) Faktablad - I doubt its talent. Im doing pixels for about 13 years now :)

Blick - there is only one gradient - the circular one making the 'nigth sky' (I know its really obvious) but I cant find any other grad. :-o Thank everybody for the positive c.
