When you see eyes forming in the fiery luminescent clouds, leave this house and never return.......That should be a sign on the front door....
I must say I've got the 'cross-eyed' comment before on dA , so don't be surprised if I'm gonna fix that in the near future...
Thanks for the feedback!
I actually think the house alone with an almost solid background would make an awesome piece. Maybe it's just me but I feel like they are two different methods of pixel art that were put together. The dithering in the sky/face versus the solidity of the house make it just a bit strange to me. The level of skill is apparent but I think they could be separate. Love it though
"Mom, there is a cross-eyed man in the clouds above our house...." :-D
i really like the whole bottom part of the image, silhouette and lighting work is outstanding. ;-)
Thanks Felipe!
I must say the zoom function here at PJ is a very cool feature. I really miss it on dA. Zooming in on pixel art is the ultimate way to explore and learn (so I totally agree on that!).
Since I saw your work on dA I was amazed by the quality, I really like zooming in to your works and looking for every detail, it's inspiring.
Thanks
Well man, I have to say, your work is pretty damn amazing. I love how smooth your art looks, you do an amazing job with the AA and dithering.
nvision The difference is that you consciously put restrictions to reach desired (retro, pixelart , whatever) effect, which was not the case in 90's.
Thanks for the vote of confidence! I use DeluxePaint mainly for nostalgic reasons and its indexed color model: you can define every color in the fixed palette, and when you change it, it automatically changes that color in the picture as well.
For my iso pixel art I use Photoshop as well
I don't really think the program used should be, or ever really is, an issue. You can tell the level of someone's skill by the quality of their composition, colour usage, anatomy, and so on. Short-cut tools used by a person who lacks fundamental skills is always apparent. I use Photoshop CS2 for everything, simply because I do more than just pixel art, and it's more efficient. Using DeluxePaint is basically the same thing...
Gorgeous work, excellent lighting and palette choices. I know this is an old piece, so critiques are likely redundant now, but I would like to those irises a little bit larger. They are the only thing keeping the piece from having a more ominous, dramitic tone.
{ As I saw in your deviant gallery, all your works are almost full dithered, and the people here (Including me) was fooled a lot of times for people who uses automatic dithering for gradient and stuff... So I thought they would be suspicious about the manufacturation of your work.. But no worry. :)
Anyway, this is pretty awesome, love those eyes! ^^
Thanks for the warning.
I must say that I do 99.9% off my dithering and 100% anti-alias by hand: it just brings more quality to the end product. I'm not the type of guy that embraces the easy way out when it comes to pixel art!
I forsee debates on subject wether the image pixelart or not, that arise each time when posted picture made in Deluxe Paint, - due to smudge and possibly gradient tools present in that program, which (because of their automated nature) bring pictures from pixelart to digital art realm.
Be warned that PJ is extremely purist when it comes to tools used.
Great picture! The style is quite typical of those early-90's Amiga demoscene pictures, but really nicely done here :)
