just had to come look at this again to remind me of what good dithering looks like ;)
Like Helm said : A great mix of oldschool demoscene mentalite but newschool pixel tech !
I like it =)
I don't know about this approach. It's off in places and because of the style you've used it really stands out to me how you've 'stylized' the shading. I think it's possible to be interested too much in form and not enough in the subject! I don't know if fixing the banding contributed that much to the piece.
My favorite from you so far. I wish I could rate this higher than a 6.
Much better! A great mix of oldschool demoscene mentalite but newschool pixel tech.
yes, I love your Hex tiles and the two lighting on the face, and the atmosphere-clouds, perfect, and only 26 colors! I cant use dithering, but in your pieces works well, Fav my friend;)
Wow. Reminds me of the super big and super fine Amiga 'Scene illustrations.
Muuuch better. Glad to see you're making an effort to reduce the banding in your pieces.
Smooth piece as usual. The hex tiles surely make it more interesting to look at.
The shading on the nose looks a bit weird, seems there is a hole/crater(?) or was that intentional?
I've been looking very critically at my pieces, and only want to display the best ones here at PixelJoint.
I revisited this piece simply because I liked it, but at the same time it never felt really finished. Furthermore I thought I could do it better, e.g. by challenging myself to reduce the amount of colors (proving - mostly to myself - that I can also create nice pixel art with a limited color palette).
As a matter of fact I'm currently working on something with a color count below 16 - which was always the minimal amount of colors I've always used...
Oh my god. It's really incredible. I mean the face was gorgeous before, but now with the new frame and background it's real class.
Only 26 colors... you did a really nice job, but i still think that the old piece is really nice as well. Why did you repeat it reducing the amount of colors? I am just curious.
I love it
Rather quite beautiful! Good job. You have a real talent in making me think "this isn't pixel art" only to be disillusioned when I zoom in! Very awesome.
Yeah, I know what you mean. The new version definitely looks more unified. I dunno, I just like bright colors (says the person who never uses them in her art). But, yeah, great piece!
Thanks for the compliment Perihelion! I found the bright blue and purple colors a bit ...errr ... too bright...
Hot damn, awesome rendering! I kind of miss the bright purple from the old version, actually. I love the hexes in the background too, and you have some spiffy lighting there.
cool
