There is nothing I do not love about this piece.
It is absolutely perfect in every way.
Impressive...will this be released? Good luck on it!!
My god, i just can´t believe this is pixel art and only using 32 colors, you are truly a master!
wow youre the only guy who have noticed the noAA rock area at the left xD congratulations ^^
I've never jaw-dropped on a piece before. That is all.
This is absolutely amazing! I have no Ieda how this was done with only 32 colors
I'm so glad you're trucking on with this project; indie projects like this, that push the limits of pixel-art, are exactly why I do pixel art. Your work in particular is a big inspiration for me; I love the fluidity of LOI's animations, in the videos I've seen of it.
Keep on rocking.
My holy fucking shit ,it looks just like a real painting ,you're my new god ^^
Oh, I didn't see this before! It's amazing, and so inspiring! I have tried a hundred times to make grass and trees look like that; your work is like magic.
I should start rating pixel art pieces by how many cups of drool they produce outta me.
I love when someone really amazes you with pixels. Truly inspirational in so many ways. I should really improve on my patience.
I really can't wait for you to finish this game.
All the effort you put into this is well worth it. Awesome piece of pixelart!
I saw this up on Pixellation forums, it's a masterpiece! The soft colours and the misty / haziness of it. Every time I see it I have to zoom in because I'm convinced there's some kind of photoshop blur filter over the top or something, but there isn't!
Reminded it, but don't said anything to it the last days. I guess it's because art like this makes speechless.
One of the best pixel works ever made ! Great composition and style. Awesome !
this somehow slipped my attention... most impressive ofc.
(edit: oh, weekly showcase just now.. my sense of time is a lil warped atm :x)
when can I plunge my dollars in your pocket to play it, though? D: Gun Ganesha needs to go down D:<
Edit2: hmmm... I couldn't come around and look at it a little closer in PS. I noticed the brightest color in your green ramp (RGB 213 255 145) had the same hue as the 2. shade in that ramp. I think the little highlights could be 'buffed' a tiny notch towards yellow more and increased in brightness a hint. I tried RGB 226 229 145 - I think it gives it overall a little more volume. Though, maybe it's specific NDS values your working with... I know how bitchy that display can be...
ofcourse it's mindblowing as is.
Upon seeing this, my immediate reaction was "JEEZUS, FUCK!"
That is some beautifully pixel scenery right there!
When can we play the game? On an unrelated note, I just now noticed what your name is, Phantasy Star is a great game.
32 colors? 32 COLORS.
I think this might be the most gorgeous pixel panoramas I've seen on this site. Bravo sir, well done.
Wow, nice... how long did it take you to make this exactly, darkfalz?
This is pretty awesome. Especially the trees and atmosphere, as well as the structure on the left.
Wow, this is amazing! I love it. Fantastic rendering, and very moody. The lighting is wonderful.
Wow, a lot to learn from studying a scene like this. Fav'd, and really good job! The lighting is so foggy and soft, very impressed.
Beyond belief.
(if you were to ever post a tutorial on this piece, I bet it would get a lot of traffic!)
Insane amount of work. I always was jealous of people capable for such feats.
No words can describe the amazingness of it
Works like this are the reason why we should not stay away from this place for too long...just Amazing sir!

Amazing work.
Glad to see that you're still working on this game!
HOLYSHITYOU'RESTILLHERE!!!!

On-topic:
I favorited it as soon as I saw it on the front page. :3
Am i crazy or it's the real fool under me o.O. But talking about the work this is just WOW!
Thats WOW, alright.=)
Wish it'll have some hue variations of greens - grass against trees, I think it'll make it even deeper.. Might not .=)
Awesome picture! I have no words to describe te feeling, it's really stuning!
Definitely huge work is done here. Just amazing pic. Somehow It gives a fairy-tale feeling.
@adarias; Well it's all up to what you do best, what you like most and what you aim for. For one I wouldn't change this to a hyper realistic acryllic painting, especially if a 20*40 px sprite will run across at some point. Or a digital painting, would it be half as sharp in detail? Would the artist be able to control another media as good? Which one carries more artistic quality is a question none of us should force ourselves to answer, but I think pixels are more appropriate for this particular project.
Making pixel art not look like pixel art...
...the mind boggles!
You forgot to AA the back of the square stone on the left edge. Did not read all the comments below so sorry if I repeat. Hope your not too tired hearing this, but your work here is quite awesome. It's a work to lose your motivation into. I'm working on a game myself and I will always remember there's this one certain game that will always outclass my project with looks. Rough my ass! You will laugh when you see my rough.
simply excellent, love the level of detail, colors and lighting. also great feel of depth. actually you should not mind about the roughness in parts, because this is one of those kinda motives you can improve forever.
Thank you for posting, darkfalzx!
@Adarius (a little continuation of your thinking . . .)
Tiny scale digi art, like the details found in this scene, and the appropriate medium to choose is something I've been pondering lately.
Right now, the biggest thing surfacing to the top of the issue, for me, is that no matter what, if you want sharp well-defined pixel level detail in your stuff you are going to be working on the pixel level at least some of the time - getting out the 1 pixel brush and working pixels around. You might ignore palette restrictions, but you're still going to need pixel artist skills.
But is a mesh of typical digi-paint and pixels beneficial or self-defeating/conflicting. I'm no pixel purist, that's for sure. But I consider it best not to mix worlds.
On one hand, darkfalzx could acheive way better smooth glowy environment ambience-rich gradation with going digi-paint, but he'll almost certainly not acheive the same precise pixel level detail as what he's got here. Both have pros and cons. You just have to know your options, your tools, and your abilities, and choose wisely.
nice work. another piece of yours shall go in the hall of fame!
It's more than done. It's overdone.
I'd kill to have skills like this with backgrounds.
this is freaking gorgeous man. so smooth, so peaceful. you did an awesome job with this, props man.
so here's where I end up being torn, and wondering about the practical limitations of pixel art. as pixel-art, this is above and beyond most anything you'll likely ever see.
as art, though, as a background, it's not exceptionally wowing. there are some design challenges facing it, some color aspects that I would have a lengthy chat about, some depth issues and, in the far back, some pronounced color carving where it swtches from warm to cool and makes 2 shapes out of 1 object instead of a rounded/lit form. these are things which, were this a traditional or digitally painted scene, could be solved in less than an hour, but you're no doubt very very far into this and as you put it "would like to say it's done", not to mention in pixels addressing those types of things would take days if not weeks.
i've seen other stuff for this project that's very much NPA, like the scaling+rotating elephant boss. so the question i have here then is : how married are you to the pixel art qualities, and do you feel restrained by them? are those restraints worth keeping?
don't get me wrong, ********* beautiful pixel art. i realize i'm making a slightly unfair argument and asking a very big question. hope you find what works best and continue plugging this site with gorgeous work :).
its perfect, but i prefer the edit cure made. more contrast looks better, but i dont know if it ruins the actual gameplay so perfect job mate keep up the work!
