one of the more creative things ive seen around here in a while. nice job.
WOW, that caught me by surprise. Very nice, but if you were ever going to make a similar piece, I'd make the stones smaller.
Thanks Schrumpf, Dont, and Juniorps!! Glad you all enjoyed it!
Losm >> I understand what you mean. Pixel art or not, I’ve seen visual art that is not so colorful yet is beautiful. Take a night scene for example, in the moonlight. Blues and blacks! Glad you like this!!
Surt >> I definitely see what you mean; I suppose my focus was not solely on the mosaic aspect of the pieces, it was also on the gemstones. In fact I am kind of disappointed that it would take so much time to individualize each howlite, each tigereye, etc., because as it looks now the copied stones look kind of mechanistically applied, but I suppose pixel art mockups can be that way :) !
Redshrike >> Ah, I obviously love gemstones too! It’s amazing the beauty we can find in this universe. Glad you appreciate it!!
Lucas >> Thanks for the explanation. I’ve read that out of Cure’s guide too. Makes sense to me. It doesn’t bother me to use many colors because I designed my own palettes for this kind of thing, to make hue shifting easier. I’m grateful for your compliments!
Damn beautiful. Love the indual gems and the mosaic is great too.
The color thing is, the less colors, the more control you have on a palette, and the easier it is to work/change it, even if you don't have any restrictions to follow. But if you can handle more colors, there is no reason not to use them (as long as it looks good).
@Surt: I dunno. As a gem/mineral collector I thought it was a pretty nice touch--it rewards closer inspection.
Individually the gems are very nice but the multiple near indistinguishable types don't make much sense to me in the context of a mosaic.
That's not true. That's not true at all. :| More colours doesn't necessarily mean more eye-catching or beautiful. Clearly, you don't come here enough. Also, for the colour thing, that's not exactly true either. I think Cure best explains it in his guide to pixel art.

Although, I must admit, I quite like this. :)
yeah dont worry sylon most ppl like to use less colors to test what they can make with less colors to choose. but i reckon the more color the more beautiful annd eye catching :)
Sorry I never got and still don't get the whole "use less colors" thing, but thanks!!
In fact I'd like to read in a new unit of time why so many people care about using less colors. This art is not going to be in a video game, and neither was it CG'd. I pixelled the stones click by click and using the fill tool, then copied and pasted them as a mosaic. Any other reason I should have used less colors?
Beautiful ! But it has a lot of colors :/

Awsome! This must've taken a ton of time.
