i don't understand the commotion going on here but i love your work hahaah it looks really badass~
Not to shit on an old fire, but If I was a fighting characyer I'd be a frog. A lot of people added cyborg arms and that kind of stuff. That by the definition of your rules mods is not themselves, but was allowed. I agree with carnivac in that the purpose of the challenge was suposed be to portray your everday "real" self as a fighter character. But rules are always going to be up for interpretation if there are clear loop holes. Clearly, a lesson to be learn't from.
www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/69041.htm ?! I understand no shit, pals! ))
You're forcing me to complain to the UN for the violation of pixelartist rights.
In all fairness, Balamoot, you should know based on previous posts both in the forum and news thread that it had to be a character resembling yourself. As I previousily said, you can't claim that this is a mask because The Fry Bat said it could be. Even still, with that mask, what resemblence would this character have to you? Absoloutly none. What is the point of having a challenge where it is to create yourself as a fighting game character and not show anything of your looks. It's really just common sense, but I do agree that I should've wrote a more precise description, perhaps even say "Create a sprite of your real self", rather "yourself" so those people with alter egos understand that "your" means you, and not your imaginary animal.
Got me with the quotes. Anyway I wasn't going to be a prisetaker. So Okay, I resign, but still you guys are too anal. A char can have a bionic arm, but it can't have a mask? Really?! Next time, please, be more exact on the rules in such kind of challenges.
"Depict your own clothes, shoes, faces and constitution" = "Create a sprite of yourself as a fighting game character"?
Other entries added magical effects or accessories, but they didn't change their species. So far we've only allowed entries that bear an assumed likeness to the artist, and not internet alter-egos. Seems unfair to allow this if we don't allow mierdinsky's big blue guy or chaoxys's robot. If this were an animated piece that showed you morphing into a suited bear warrior, I might feel differently. Right now this screams "bearlogger" and not "dave".
You're bore. Why it can't be a mask of bear on him? :D
If we always stretched the rules to such lengths, what would be the point of a challenge?
Good job. I think this deserves some further discussion on whether it is able to be included in the challenge or not. For now though, I just removed it. My problem is that, while the others who contain cyborg arms or magical spells still depict themselves in their image, yours is clearly a bear. (Let's be honest here, you can't claim that you intended that to be a mask!)
Very good sprite though. I'll get back to you ASAP on whether it be added or not. Thanks.
@Carnivac: My grandpa alturl.com/vpmp3 . Afterall do you believe I can depict myself wearing a gasmask or a huge sombrero in accordance with the rules? Here's no magical or cybernetic stuff only a mask and gauntlets, so I still don't get why my entry has become so troublesome.
It was pretty clear to me. It said 'yourself' and my sprite features no magical powers or role playing or freakish proportions cos I don't have any of those in real life either. Those that are doing that have obviously done sprites that aren't themselves at all.
Anyways yeah it's a very nice sprite but I don't think this or many others actually were what the challenge was about at all.
@The Fry Bat: I appreciate your welljustified support. It is important. Must admit, making the sprite isn't so easy to me, so for this challenge I've used the fact that it's rules weren't so strict.
@Cure
A. Other entrants getting away with spell-casting and mage/knight roleplaying sort of paves the way for "magically" transmogrified heads.
B. Also, bear masks exist.
C. On the whole, It's rather unfair to deny entries like this when the challenge criteria is as open-ended as "create a sprite of yourself." If artists depicting themselves as hyper-realistically as possible is what you had in mind for this challenge, then it ought to have been specified so.
Thanks for the comment on the newspaper-out-of-the-pants. Fixed.
Also added some minor details.
My only complaint is that the newspaper aligned with the suit line, it looks like its comming out of its pants. And your right arm look really big
Um? C'mon, cure! Don't you know me? Look at my avatar pic!
And why this gentelman en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_(Tekken) is better than me?
This is a nice sprite, but I don't think it fits with the challenge, unless you are in reality a bear in a suit.
nice
