i'll have to take a look at your website. as for criticism well this would have been better if you compiled them into an actual piece rather then showing us the tileset. asor th graphics them selves they look pretty good the ground on those underground tiles i fell could have been done better but if this were an actual game i dont think that alone would enough to make people put it down.
however the biggest problem i can see with you work is that when the tiles are used, it doesn't look random. you can tell its a tile being repeated.
so overall i give this a 7/10.
Riley, I just love your stuff. Especially the ROTMG santa. Are you still helping Jatz with his never ending game project?
I see your point, but I'm purposefully going for a blocky look. That's why I use squares and rectangles in almost everything in the image. Even the characters are rectangles.
One last thing is if this is actually going to be for a game I would definately suggest making like inbetween tiles when two different materials contact eachother just so they are not so perfectly square.
Yeah, you have a point. I feel lighter objects could get lost in the background much like the cactus. I could fix it two ways. One, lighten up the background. Two, put a black outline around the cactus. I'm not really wanting to do two, so I might tinker with it and lighten the background more. I want it to be noticeable, but not dominant. I'm having trouble finding a tone that sticks out from the sky, but looks like it's in the distance. Thank you for the feedback. It's truly helpful.
Better but there is still something really cluttered feeling about it. I cant easily follow where the ground. I tried fading the background out even more and it seemed to help. I think the main problem is the cactus seems to blend into the background.
Thank you for the support on my ability as a pixel pusher. I chose to mix the resolutions to add some depth, but I guess it didn't work out that well. The game is viewed at 2x by default, so I assumed to create distance I would make some tiles that would stay 1x for the background. It would probably work better if I made it all 2x.
@shunao, I'm glad you like it. I'm guessing that you're talking about the 8x8 tiles in the background as well, yes?
@Boxcar, I'm glad you like it.
Nice. It reminds me a lot like KAG, regardless of whether you were inspired or not. Looking at your gallery, it's obvious you have the ability to come up with this easily on your own so it's believable that you done this completely yourself.
Quite messy though and I don't really dig the mixed resolutions.
wow this looks awesome! i love the variety of the tiles even with the limited palette... it's still very colorful! Like what Mr. Fahrenheit said, pixel size looks weird...i would suggest just having them grayed-out? Either way, nice job!
Yep, there's at least inspiration drawn from KAG/Geti here.
Don't get me wrong I am not accusing you with anything just saying what came to my mind.
Guys, its probably similar because there really isnt much room to work with, especially with a blocky style like this. This looks fun, great job.
Yeah, a lighter color would probably work better for the background tiles. I was going for a grayed out look, but it's a tad dark so it went opposite of what would probably look better. I think I'll mess with that real quick. As for the tree, it's a coincidence that it's similar. I do see a resemblence, but that was not done intentionally.
The change of pixel size is sort of weird. Maybe try making the stuff in the background lighter so it looks like it is fading into the distance more and doesnt conflict with the forground as much. Not going to lie though, the tree does look a little very similar with the little numbs on the side being pretty much the same.
Like I told Cirpons, it's merely a coincidence. This is in no way taken from or related to KAG. I do not take kindly to false accusations of theft that would tarnish my ability as a pixel pusher.
I agree with Cirpons, this looks exactly like a reduced version of "King Arthur's Gold".
I wouldn't really say that KAG was the inspiration for it. You could make a connection, but it wasn't the inspiration.
@lfdf, I'm glad you like it.
This reminds me of King Arthur's Gold so much!
