Love this. This would definitely have been a huge hit on 1990s consoles.
Am I just seeing things, or is there a subtle Wario face on the moon?
"Ghost blocks". The three empty squares denote where three blocks would be. When they are filled in they block wario from going in that direction. Doing a certain task or hitting the right switch turns them on/off depending on your needs.
Its t'š a common gameplay element in nintendo platformers.
Sometimes I wish people with trillions would come around here and sponsor the creation of the mocked up game.
I loathe the character but can't deny the pixelling skills going on in this piece.

I knew that was your style from the thumbnail. I’m impressed by the obvious effort you put into this piece. 
I love this character and the mockup's style. A bit darker as I remembered the Wario games, but fitting for the character :)
How do you construct a full mockup like this? The canvas dimensions don't seem to fit a specific system, and there aren't that many repetitive tiles that I can see.

This looks beautiful! I'd love to see an official game with this sort of style, it'd be an interesting change from the usual brighter, cartoonier styles they prefer for the franchise.
