first let me say that this is a very, very nice piece, sos you dont think im bashing ^^
that being said, theres a few things you could try to improve if you are looking to use selective outlining techniques. im no expert, but since you asked for tips, i might as well share what i know.
-Its a good idea to try to keep selout colors near each other, because if you have an oddly placed light or dark, you end up with mad jaggies
- In general, the darkest outlines should tend towards the darkest shadowed section, and the bight sections of the sprite have a light (but still darker) outline or on occasion no outline at all, if the section is bright enough. good placement of these outlineless sections can really help a piece. the hair in http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/9368.htm# is a decent example of this ive done, the shading imples an outline but in some places i didnt even try to have one, and i think a similar technique might work well for the upper right portion of the fruit.
dont know if that helps, but i hope it does, this is a really great piece (i like all your stuff really)
