The name of the site Google is now an official English word. The Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary has officially placed "google" (small g) in their newest edtion.  For example:  "I've got to google that" is a correct sentence.

Correct you are. You want 666 zeroes named after you?

If you use that logic, there 'should' be a nickname for ever set of numbers between 0 and infinity, since infinity is a number too.

But having a number with 100 means we need something between 96 zeroes and that, creating another off number, or an oddity of another sort.

Anyways, /me shuts up for fear of seeming the obsessive freak he really is.

Not realy. We don't use numbers past 1 trillion as there's hardly ever a need for it and as a novelty it could exist, as it alighns with the metric system in a sense, having 100 zero's.

The mere concept of a googol is ridiculous. All place-value names past the hundreds have a number that is divisible by 3 as their 0 count.

EX: a million: 6
a billion: 9
a trillion: 12

and so on.

I think that one is googol

Isn't google already in their? To signify 1 followed by 100 zeros as a number.

Yeah me too. Besides, I still think a better use for the verb would be:
  • v.  Google: To hire Stephen Merchant to glare at someone you dislike, giving them nightmares for the rest of their life.

I did indeed "google" to find a link for the article.  I guess I'm just a stubborn old bastard... "search" still works for me.

user

Oh well, apparently Oxford has it in their dictionary too. Anyway I guess you had to... google that article, eh sedge?

I didn't realize Merriam-Webster was an American English dictionary.

user
Lawrence (Level 10 Operative) at 7/10/2006 7:43:15 AM
Merriam-Webster? So it's only for American English, not normal English. Heheh
