my point is that it is a shame that you cannot expect to have your rights respected in another country, and, living in a nation that claims to be the "land of the free and the home of the brave," i think that denying people the rights that our constitution is supposed to guarentee speaks neither of freedom nor bravery.  each morning, i pledge alliegence to "one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all" (and i take the pledge seriously)

the fact of the matter is is if i, a US citizen was detained in another country for something i did, would i expect to go home and get the same rights as the people that live in the country and hold citizenship? NO! i wouldnt and neither should people that come to this country..........

Actually all i wanted to say is one question: Why USA news are so important for PJ? Asia and Europe is world too. Zombie Smahs is right.

They could put a US citizen in jail claiming he's a non citizen, and he couldn't do anything about it because habeus corpus is suspended and they won't let him bring to court the question of whether or not he is rightfully imprisoned.

sprry for the double - forgot to mention that it is not the right of the government to suspend ariticles of the constitution, but i guess if they are going to try to suspend the 5th amendment, they see no problem in suspending the 10th as well.....

it goes against the spirit of the Constitution, if not the letter.  the constitution, though it is the constitution of the American government, reads "no person" not "no citizen," and its my personal belief that the rights granted under the constitution should extend to all

hmm i think the key phrase is non citizens, if your a non citizen breaking the law wouldnt you expect to go to jail? if i went to another country and broke the law, i wouldnt expect to be going home quickly, wow double standards

It isn't just the fact that political news is constantly posted, but also because it is posted in the most extravagantly biased manner.

I'm going to pull a flying spaghetti monster defense and challenge the news submitterees by asking them exactly what kind of political, non-pixel art related news is allowed to be posted? I'm going to start posting Australian news soon purely for the sake of fairness.

@Zombie:  I'm pretty sure the solution to this is to just ignore political news posts (or whatever other types of news posts you are not interested in).

yeah, there were an assload of people who hated lincoln, even in the north.  civil wars and assassinations are not necessarily the mark of an unpopular man, but he certainly had his detractors.

I'm getting tired of seeing political posts on pixeljoint. I come here to look at pixel art, not read news that I see on a million other websites everyday.

What?  That's complete nonsense.  Of course it would, because that's who are the victims of cases like this, like Eugene V. Debs, the pacifists, and the Japanese Americans.

Sensation, I believe the point he was trying to make is that Lincoln was lauded as a wonderful President, despite somethings people considered terrible.
He's not saying that the same will happen with Bush, but mearly that being so close to the issues skews our perspective just a bit.

Lincoln made so many Democrats(read:The South) mad, that we lost half of the nation. In retrospect I believe most would say that he was one of the better presidents(The silly little abolition thing). Bash Bush as you will, but I'll allow a bit of time to clarify my view.

@ryumaru: there probably were plenty of people who complained about him but because of the internet and everyone being connected to each other, the complaints are simply more noticible now days compared to back when it would be much harder to have everyone's opinions heard

if everybody were law abiding citizens, would this really matter? abe lincoln did this, and i dont hear anybody complaining about him.

signing this bill is just a new patch for an old game really, the basatrds have been doing this forever.  like legalizing pot in canada, it's just acknowledging something thats always been around.  shame really, but old news

I know what you mean.  This is not a Republican or a Democrat issue at all... a lot of people on both sides supported this unfortunately.  This really is a tragic turn for every single citizen of the US and beyond.

Bummer. I'm a far right-wing conservative, but the text of the bill doesn't set well with me: "No court, justice, or judge shall have jurisdiction to hear or consider an application for a writ of habeas corpus filed by or on behalf of an alien detained by the United States who has been determined by the United States to have been properly detained as an enemy combatant or is awaiting such determination." So if they arrest me tonight, label me an enemy combatant, I say I'm not, they can hold me indefinitely until 'they' decide I am? Scary.

This is indeed very sad for a free country, but what's a "fair" trial anyway?  A rich person can afford a better lawyer than a poor person and thus has a much better chance of getting off.  Corporations can bully small businesses and individuals with the mere threat of legal action (regardless of how groundless their case is) simply because people know they can't win or if they can win they will be financially drained to the point of bankruptcy.  

The US legal system is deeply flawed and this just adds to the misery. Huzzah.
