Pixel Art Challenge: Monumental

News Details

Handy pixelgrapher zi-double challenges you to pixel a historical memorial or monument from your town or country. No more than that, either - just the monument, no surrounding scene. It has to be a structure that only serves as a monument - so, for example, no churches turned monument. Make sure you post a reference link in the description so that your entry can be compared to the real thing.
Isometric work is encouraged but not required.

Colours: 32 Max
Canvas size: 200 x 200 Max
Transparency: Yes
Animation: No
Reference link required!

The challenge thread will have all the challenge updates. The thread is also a great place to post your WIPs.

Yep Adarias, but that is why put "town or country" ... because if somebody is from village with 3 buildings I'm shure that must take country or nearest town ;)

tomic As Skamocore say I think isn't problem ... "having a single colour". The main idea is to haven't nice scene for background, not to haven't background colour with some AA if somebody want.

skeddles (Level 11 Psychopath) at 9/14/2008 10:18:28 AM
can I just trace an outline?

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 9/14/2008 9:40:55 AM
yep, i think i'll cut a little hole into the canvas then =)

skamocore (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 9/14/2008 9:19:57 AM
Well, it only says it has to have transparency, it doesn't say what has to be transparent. Technically you could just make one pixel transparent.

Also, having a single colour background isn't creating the "surrounding scene", so that isn't really against the rules either...

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 9/14/2008 8:28:45 AM

is transparency a must or is an empty (dark) background okay too? (i feel that my piece doesn't look too well on the grey of the standart pj theme)

"I think in every town have enough"

Clearly you have not been to New England, I need to go two towns over to get to the nearest cemetery and drive 30 minutes to find the nearest park/plaza >.<

If i count my town though as manhattan now i might come up with something in time...

I wanted to believe that, and I'd like to see something like that allowed too... But your words do not match the challenge rules: "just the monument, no surrounding scene".

Finished on the first day, let's party

I wouldn't say that. You can always find a creative way to use these monuments. Ghostbusters-like scenes with human statues, kids dominoes with stonehenge or other megaliths, zombie scenes with burial places or just adding some story to the monument. The possibilities are endless...

7even (Level 7 Assassin) at 9/8/2008 1:27:31 PM
Creativity has a low score on this one... =/

zi-double (Level 8 Cannibal) at 9/8/2008 6:06:36 AM
tomic - yep without scene, because else peoples will evaluate details from the scene and not as execution of the monument. Yep - just something like an old war memorial on transparent canvas. Tombstone, historical record.

skamocore - The idea is to show some monument from your town or country and to show him to other peoples. Than they can learn more about your town or country. Else of course don't need to prove from where are you, but will be fun to show something from your town :)

Glez - yep statues are included

some examples I think in every town have enough:

or something simple:

PS
also will be good to explain what represent your work ! This is something like historical lesson.

Zenobia (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/8/2008 5:57:02 AM
Ok so does that mean likeee... a statue to remember WWII victims?
Or can I pick some old windmill or, well, this would look awesome in iso for example: http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afbeelding:Dampaleis.jpg

Raytheon (Level 4 Shichikyu) at 9/8/2008 4:23:41 AM
Monument doesnt mean a famous thing.

Something that is a monument to something. So you have to have a reference link.

Idk many things like that in Australia. I would do the Sydney Harbour Bridge but thats well a bridge.
Perhaps Uluru but that's boring.

This isn't very specific.

Glez (Level 1 Depressed) at 9/8/2008 4:17:36 AM
I suppose that fountains and statues are included?

skamocore (Level 9 Necrophiliac) at 9/8/2008 4:10:19 AM
"a historical memorial or monument from your town or country"

does this mean that you can pixel an historical monument that's NOT from your town or country? =/

Mille (Level 6 Serial Killer) at 9/8/2008 3:42:47 AM
Only thing we got in Geneva is that boring thing. Not sure I will enter the challenge...

tomic (Level 10 Lieutenant General) at 9/8/2008 1:32:47 AM

i don't get it yet.. "just the monument, no surrounding scene", does that mean no background (sky, other buildings), just something like an old war memorial on transparent canvas?
