An elf that has no elfish features besides the wonky ear, smudgy skin that more resembles a bad Photoshop job than a pixel art piece, dull and incoherent palette, a mess of hair with no actual depth or volume, some bad decisions regarding the composition (all that air, the fence?) and it's not at all a very representative pixel art piece (as a number one piece should be), it doesn't utilize any strengths of the medium itself. The background is okay, even though the field seems rushed. The biggest flaw is perhaps that it has nothing at all to do with the foreground, it's not very fantasy-esque at all and doesn't add to the feeling of the picture. All I can think of is kitsch 90s and 80s-style T-shirts-shirts and posters, with unicorns and rainbows, and it's not even done especially well. Also, the artist may want to study some anatomy, the lack of basic knowledge about facial musculature and bone structure really shines through. I also think that all the other pieces done by this artist are much better and really utilizes the medium, this is just a mess of a picture.Before anyone attacks me and says that I can't do better myself, I'm too critical, etc etc , I'm critical because this is one of the most praised pieces on this site, and it's really bland and not representative at all! It's okay, and better when compared to much, but that doesn't say anything about the actual quality of this as a piece. This looks more than a Photoshop-paint over than an actual well thought out piece.  |
