Heroin for what ails ya

News Details

There's a funny little sidebar in October's National Geographic magazine. It's pretty common knowledge that Coca-Cola used cocaine as an ingredient for several years (1886-1904) - what might shock you are all the other hardcore products that used to be legal...
  • Cocaine - Painkilling breakthrough could be found in dozens of products, from throat lozenges to suppositories
  • Heroin - Marketed as a cough medicine, 1898 to 1913
  • Opium - Used in vaporizers to treat ashma, around 1900
  • Morphine - Used in syrup for quieting infants, also around 1900
Just think of all the historical figures of at the turn of the nineteenth century who were probably just a bunch of junkies - yeah, I'm talking about you Henry Ford and Thomas Edison!
