Clumsy bastard trips and destroys three Qing vases

News Details

A loose shoelace led to the downfall of the Qing vases. It's amazing museums don't lose more art to random acts of clumsiness/stupidity.

A couple of months ago, I visited that musem. The Chinese vases were pretty boring to look at, to be honest. I much preferred the paintings on the upper levels. Oh well.

All museums should have an escalator at the front enterance so that those with untied shoes will have the opportunity to have their leg(s) severed, thus avoiding any real damage.

"People who are born in Europe are lucky anyway."

So true! *proud-European*

Agreed: Velvet rope + display case = impregnable defense

Murphy`s Law, it was bound to happen they should not have had the vases sitting on the window sill for so long unprotected if they were worth so much they should have been in display cases gaurded by the power of the velvet rope, ohhh.. the velvet rope.

its the museums fault.

hahahahahahahah.

In America they'd announce his name on every newstation and the museum would sue the shirt off his back.  A lucky clumsy bastard he is   I feel bad for the guy, and the museum.. mostly the museum for having to say whatFaktablad just quoted and having to put the vases back together.. It'd be hard enough if it was one vase, but 3? That's tragic

"It was a most unfortunate and regrettable accident, but we are glad that the visitor involved was able to leave the museum unharmed," said Duncan Robinson, the Fitzwilliam's director.

I want to see the look on his face when he said that.

Damn, that's one clumsy bastard. Luckily I don't visit museums much.

sedgemonkey (Level 10 Master Sniper) at 1/30/2006 11:31:13 AM

It would definitely suck to be known as "the guy who destroyed those priceless vases".

I promise if I ever meet the poor fella in person I won't bring up his clumsiness or his gigantic neaderthal forehead.

sensation (Level 1 Intern) at 1/30/2006 11:24:30 AM
that's quite mean to call the poor man a clumsy bastard, especially after he fell down a flight of stairs and destroyed 3 vases which are obviously irreplacable, expensive, and historic. just imagine the pain and guilt he feels.
