Doppleganger @ 10/14/2009 7:56:39 PM commented on Nvisionary Shambler I went ahead and edited his front-left tentacle that I was talking about. Really only the part where it connects to the head and the webbing, though. While I think there are some perspective and shading issues, I wasn't too keen on taking them on at the moment. Another thing I noticed is that the back ridges of its frill don't really follow the contour of the head. I think they would be far less visible from this point of view. Overall, I think that there is just too much 2-dimensionality, and that the shading on the tentacles is confused in places. In fact, the tentacles remind me a lot of Frankie's work. Which, while often impressive, suffers from the same problesm oft-times.
Doppleganger @ 10/14/2009 4:30:15 PM commented on Nvisionary Shambler Amazing, my favorite animal! I really dig the head, but I think that the tentacle sizes/shapes are miscontstrued. Same with the their texture. Right now, it looks like a burlap sac version of an octopus. Which, maybe that's the point, since it is an other-worldly creature. Anyway, I really like it, and the one other thing I might consider if I were you, is how his front two tentacles relate to each other. His front-right tentacle seems to be about 2x as long as his front-left. Also, it's like his body is disproportionately smaller than the right-side where his front-left tentacle meets.
Doppleganger @ 9/16/2009 12:35:28 PM commented on Dinosaur Sweet! This is a great piece. I agree about the subject matter, but I don't blame you for not taking on something more dynamic. Cool idea and excellent execution! As an aside, this image worked great for my monitor's auto-adjustment function. When I first saw it, there were crazy scan lines and jittery pixels on the piece. But then when I auto-adjusted everything went perfectly still. Kind of like a bonus. Thanks for such classy and useful artwork.
Doppleganger @ 9/7/2009 8:33:00 AM commented on a writer & a dragon really cool! You've got an amazingly cute and personalized style. Remdinds me a lot fo Amano's illustrations at times. I think it is a bit hard to read the desk, paper and harness in the area in front of the girl. I'm not sure how to go about addressing that, but using the shadows to bring out and seperate the areas would probably help.

Doppleganger @ 7/9/2009 3:42:41 PM commented on Pregnant Marowak lol I've never thought of pokemon being pregnant before...I imagine it would make for a pretty sweet pokemon episode though. "Misty! Cc come look!" Ash exclaims. Misty hurriedly runs over to Ash, hunched over Pikachu on the floor. "What's all the fuss about?!" she asks. "Pp pp Pikachu is pregnant!" ... "Pikachu's a she?!" 9 months later... "Push Pikachu, push!!" Pikachu, spread eagle on the pokétable, at the pokéhospital, clenching Ash's hand with its stubby tyranosaurus arms. "Piiiiiiiikaaaaaaa...." the grubby little paws grip harder. "iiiikkaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh" a painful grimace comes across Ash's face as if Pikachu's nails were forged by Thor himself. "Chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!" A blast of lightning indicative of absolute creation throttles the room illuminating the glorious spectacle that just occured... "It's a boy!" Ash proclaims.
In all seriousness though, the shading of the head is ace. However, the body suggests a poor understanding of form/anatomy, and its pose suggests a lack of knowledge surrounding perspective, form/anatomy again(non-dynamic poses suggest that they are done methodically and typically illuminate persistent anatomical errors), and volume/depth. To a lesser extent the lighting on the body is not very dynamic and very formulaic. Although I feel that some of this has to do with general nature in which the body was drawn. Would I be wrong in supposing that you used a reference for the head and followed it more closely than any references you may have used for the body? Anyway, I like the piece alright. The colors are pretty neat, and the head, as I said, is great. I think that you should consider pursuing the subjects I listed off in the last paragraph. They will help your art out greatly. One last thing to think about is composition. This piece could have carried a lot more weight if portrayed right.
Doppleganger @ 7/4/2009 12:31:26 PM commented on Ledali II -The Crystal Egg That's awesome! I imagine a game about Salvador Dali would be specifically that. I agree with BB's crit about the in-game eggs though. The middle left level is especially sweet. Very aesthetically pleasing.

Doppleganger @ 5/19/2009 6:54:37 AM commented on New partisan Tiles Baller! Just make sure that there is some readability between the tiles. Part of the strategy of a tbs, is to be able to glance at a screen and make educated decisions about relative locations of your allies and your enemies. Beautiful graphics can quickly be detrimental if they begin affecting gameplay. In this case, it is possible the flow of the game would be interrupted while players check and double-check their units susceptibility to attacks from other nearby (but how near?) enemies.
Doppleganger @ 5/19/2009 6:49:27 AM commented on P.O.D Nice work, G! This has come leaps and bounds since your first colorized conception. The parts that I really like are the way you've colored the metallic and wooden textures. Both the texturization and the specific colors you've chosen are ace. Most especially those parts that are metallic, such as the turbines. What I find lacking are the colors of the pulled fabric (is that what that is?) between the wooden frames that create the shape of the machine. There is a rather prominent gray-green that is being used as a shadow for this material and it could really benefit from being brought closer to gray or brown, or even blue. The green in it only serves to create a sort of sickly flesh palette in that area. (I know, because quite recently I made the mistake of using a similar palette on a portrait) The other thing is the steam coming out the back. It's not like the colors or the shading are bad, it's just that they fail to serve the purpose of further defining what it is. For something like that, it would be of benefit to use much softer and subtler colors, so as to sort of disappear in contrast with everything else. Steam is a subtle thing, and the way you've represented it, you'd think it was nearly as hard as steel. Regardless of all that, this is definitely some of the best work I've seen you do. And it is well-deserving of all the attention it's been getting. Kudos to you!

Doppleganger @ 5/5/2009 8:28:48 AM commented on Star Search Good job! I really like this one, and definitely voted for it. My main line of reasoning for doing so, was that it instantly captured me into the essence of the game with just those two screens. As an aside, I will update the avatar as soon as I get the chance, it's been hard to set aside personal time for myself as of late.
Doppleganger @ 4/22/2009 11:27:40 AM commented on Vingdicator haha, yeah! It's true. :)
Doppleganger @ 4/21/2009 11:09:49 PM commented on Vingdicator groovy! I thought, and still kinda do, that it was some sort of caterpillar like creature. Obviously I'm mistaken, but the chainsaw blades look kind of like feet. I think that they're kind of out of perspective and therefore give the impression that they're feet rather than teeth. The two in the back look especially like feet, just the way they're lined up suggests they could be feet. Oh, and the handle and hilt make this trumpet-like snout. Overall, it's a cute creature. The silly bloody heart emote from its butt makes it that much cuter. It's a pretty sweet weapon too, but each aspect of the weapon is in its own perspective. They're all relatively similar perspectives, but each aspect has a discernibly different perspective than the rest upon inspection. The result of this is that the mind can not as easily process the image you're converying as it would be able to were the weapon to be drawn in proper perspective throughout. Not to sound too nitpicky about something that seems to be a just for fun piece, but it's always good to point out fundamental flaws; a full understanding of the fundamentals is key to success as an artist.

Doppleganger @ 3/27/2009 3:31:18 PM commented on diamond grid 2 I think the grid not being perfect adds something to this piece. Very good work!
Doppleganger @ 3/12/2009 10:15:59 PM commented on Quest Nice character design, the helmet is ace. There is some serious jumping with his right gauntlet in its transition from going forward to backward or vice versa. Other than that, I'm content with its workings given your understanding of how it ended up. :)
Doppleganger @ 3/12/2009 9:46:30 AM commented on Spaceship hehe, actually no. Sorry, I use idraw3 for all my spriting needs and it is unable to handle anything but 256 or less colored bmps or pngs. I can definitely just convert them with photoshop, and I in fact did, but it's just kind of a hassle to open up such a bulky program to do such a menial job. The nature of this file really isn't important anymore, and my question was one more in jest than anything else.
Doppleganger @ 3/11/2009 11:51:08 PM commented on Spaceship Do those palettes really need to be 24bit images? On another related note, I think I'll try this.
Doppleganger @ 3/10/2009 1:26:39 PM commented on SteamPunk T-Rex You've used way too many colors! I think that it has affected your rendering of the creature greatly.

Doppleganger @ 3/1/2009 2:04:51 PM commented on Speak up! That looks really nice to me. I agree that the aa is week in some places, most notably the balloon that the speaker icon is in. And that, most notably along the top and on the tail. Even so, it's still great. You've got a masterful style that rarely goes unnoticed in any piece you do. This one not being an exception carries its own weight very well.
